Background
I have always enjoyed making things and following my degree course in Fine Art, I continued to explore working with a lot of different materials, producing both large and small pieces of work. Over the years, I have explored willow weaving, print making, wet felting and painting. It was while I was teaching that I discovered the art of enamelling and I bought my first kiln over 30 years ago.
My Work
Enamelling on copper, I make mainly jewellery, specifically earrings and pendants, though I have made clocks and other pieces. My work focuses on painting with enamels and I have employed a technique known as sgraffito whereby the surface of the enamel is scratched off so vestiges of the layers underneath show through. The pieces are inspired by the random patterns and marks found in nature and man made objects.
Moving forward
The majority of my enamelled pieces are made into jewellery though I have combined my enamelled pieces with other materials and I will continue to explore this area. Alongside my enamelling, I aim to develop my interests in print making, felting and painting.
